The Linda Mwananchi movement is set to hold a major political rally in Trans Nzoia County on Saturday, July 25, ahead of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s homecoming ceremony in Bungoma County scheduled for Sunday, July 26.
The Trans Nzoia event is expected to mark the final leg of the movement’s Western Kenya mobilisation tour before leaders converge in Bungoma for what organisers have described as Sifuna’s official homecoming.
Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has confirmed that his county will host the Linda Mwananchi delegation before it proceeds to Bungoma for the concluding event.
According to the programme released by organisers, the day’s activities in Trans Nzoia will begin with a political rally in Kitale before the delegation proceeds to Kiminini for further public engagements.
Former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati, who is part of the organising team, said the itinerary was designed to maximise interaction with residents across the two counties.
Organisers said the Bungoma homecoming will begin with a church service before the delegation embarks on a series of stopover rallies across the county.
The convoy is expected to make political stopovers at Kamukuywa, Kimilili and Chwele before culminating in a major public gathering at Bungoma Posta Grounds.
Governor Natembeya has called on residents from across Western Kenya to attend both the Trans Nzoia rally and the Bungoma homecoming in large numbers.
He has also urged eligible Kenyans to register as voters ahead of the 2027 General Election, saying public participation will be critical in determining the country’s political future.
Natembeya has clarified that the Bungoma gathering should be viewed as a political rally and homecoming rather than a coronation ceremony, dismissing speculation surrounding the event.
The governor said the Linda Mwananchi movement has already held political engagements in several Western Kenya counties, leaving Trans Nzoia and Bungoma as the final stops on the regional tour.
He added that the movement intends to strengthen its grassroots structures in the region before expanding its activities to other parts of the country.
The Linda Mwananchi movement has been positioning itself as an opposition platform advocating constitutionalism, accountability in government and reforms ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Edwin Sifuna has emerged as one of the movement’s leading figures following recent political developments that saw him take a more prominent role within the opposition.
Earlier this week, members of the Linda Mwananchi team held consultations with Jubilee Party leader Fred Matiang’i as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation among opposition leaders.
The meeting focused on discussions around political strategy and coordination as opposition parties prepare for the 2027 General Election.
Speaking ahead of the Western Kenya tour, Sifuna said the movement continues to attract interest from leaders across the political divide who are seeking to associate with its agenda.
Preparations for both the Trans Nzoia rally and the Bungoma homecoming have intensified, with organisers conducting mobilisation campaigns across the region to encourage public participation.
Security agencies are expected to oversee the events as large crowds are anticipated in both Trans Nzoia and Bungoma during the two-day political programme.
