PETITION: Reinstate Edwin Sifuna as ODM Secretary General
To:
The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM)
The Registrar of Political Parties
The Political Parties Disputes Tribunal
The Leadership of the Orange Democratic Movement
WHEREAS:
Edwin Sifuna was duly elected as Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in accordance with the party’s constitution and has served with integrity, transparency, and unwavering commitment to the party’s founding ideals.
On February 13, 2026, the ODM National Executive Committee (NEC), acting under the influence of a faction that supports the broad‑based government with Kenya Kwanza, purported to remove Sifuna from office on grounds of “insubordination.”
The removal was procedurally flawed, undemocratic, and contrary to the ODM constitution, which guarantees fair disciplinary processes and the right to be heard.
The true reason for the removal was Sifuna’s principled opposition to the party’s cooperation with a government that has trampled on the rights of Kenyans, raised taxes unfairly, and failed to implement the 10‑point agenda agreed in the March 2025 Memorandum of Understanding.
The ouster has been rejected by thousands of ODM members, youth, and ordinary Kenyans who have rallied behind the slogan “Sisi ndio Sifuna” – affirming that Sifuna’s voice represents their own.
The NEC’s action has deepened divisions within ODM, undermined internal democracy, and weakened the party’s ability to serve as a credible opposition and defender of the people.
THEREFORE, WE, THE UNDERSIGNED, PETITION AS FOLLOWS:
That the purported removal of Edwin Sifuna as Secretary General of ODM be declared null and void for violating the party’s constitution and the principles of natural justice.
That Edwin Sifuna be immediately reinstated as Secretary General, with full restoration of his powers, functions, and privileges.
That the NEC and all party organs be directed to uphold the ODM constitution and refrain from any further actions that undermine internal democracy.
That the Registrar of Political Parties and the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal take all necessary steps to ensure compliance with the party’s governing documents and the Political Parties Act.

Why This Petition Matters
The fight to keep Sifuna as Secretary General is not about one man. It is about whether ODM will remain a party where the voice of ordinary members matters, or whether it will be reduced to a vehicle for personal ambition. Sifuna stood with the grassroots when they said “no” to the broad‑based government that silenced opposition. His removal was a punishment for loyalty to the party’s founding values.
